Multinational Seadrill chooses Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to repair rigs

Multinational Seadrill, one of the main operators of the Bermuda-based oil and gas industry, has chosen the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the reactivation of its two major drill rigs.

These are the West Jupiter and West Carina ultra-deepwater units, which will be repaired by Tenerife Shipyards as the prime contractor with the support of local companies. According to the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, reactivation and upgrading of multinational Seadrill drillers should be carried out “before entering a contract in Brazil.”

This explains that Tenerife Shipyards has committed to local subcontractors such as Aveman, a company specializing in air conditioning and air conditioning services and installations, to perform these repair tasks; Ateca, a company specialized in offshore business; Trident, underwater repairs and Bone cranes.

Puertos de Tenerife points out that there are reactivation projects for units such as: West Jupiter and West Carinae requires a “significant” investment. This particular action will “increase economic activity in the Tenerife port community by around four million euros”.
