The far-right Marine Le Pen was the victim of two eggs thrown by an unidentified citizen this Friday during a visit to Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in northern France on the occasion of the legislative election.
The former presidential candidate of the National League traveled to the aforementioned town this Friday to accompany the formation candidate for the 20th district of the Northern division, Guillaume Florquin.
Dozens of people gathered around the Florquin campaign headquarters to see Le Pen’s arrival, at which point two raw eggs were thrown through the crowd as ‘La Voix du Nord’ reported and videos posted on social media.
According to eyewitnesses interviewed by the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’, insults against Le Pen and her mother were heard from the crowd shortly after, as the former presidential candidate’s security team surrounded him.
National Association spokesman and deputy Sébastien Chenu described the incident as a “marginal” gesture and stated that Le Pen was finally able to meet with his supporters “without any problems”.
Along the same lines, Joshua Hochart, the formation’s deputy departmental delegate, pointed out that “the person will apparently be detained by police officers.”
