Boris Pistorius, head of the German Ministry of Defense, said that German authorities do not intend to withdraw the military contingent of peacekeeping forces participating in the UN mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL). His words were quoted by a German newspaper Spiegel.

“Withdrawal is out of the question at the moment,” the department head said after visiting the Oldenburg ship in Beirut.

According to Pistorius, the withdrawal of the peacekeeping force could be misunderstood by the Libyans and Israelis.

“The situation is described as tense, but there are no concerns about the security of the army,” the minister said.
