American scientists from the National Institutes of Health in Maryland found that a slight reduction in daily calorie intake stimulates genes and strengthens muscles, slowing down age-related changes. The study was published in the scientific journal magazine Aging Cell.

Experts examined data from participants in a long-term study on the effects of limiting energy consumption. They found that reducing daily calories by just 12% was enough to stimulate the biological processes of healthy aging.

The research team sought to understand the molecular basis for the benefits of reducing calories. It turned out that people lost about 10 kilos of weight in the first year if the restrictions were followed. But they maintained muscle strength, indicating that the restriction strengthened the participants’ muscles.

Further analysis helped scientists determine that reducing calorie intake suppresses inflammatory processes in tissues.

Study author Dr. “Since inflammation and aging are closely linked, calorie restriction represents a powerful approach to preventing the inflammatory condition that many older adults develop,” said Luigi Ferrucci.

Previous scientists clarified Another important mechanism of aging.
