American researchers, as part of a scientific team, found that chronic kidney disease increases the risk of sudden cardiac arrest by more than seven times. Research results published In JAHA (Journal of the American Heart Association).

Cardiac arrest is a sudden stop of blood circulation in the body as a result of the heart’s inability to pump blood effectively. This condition is very dangerous because it is accompanied by hypoxia – oxygen starvation of organs and tissues.

295 Hispanics and Latinos who had previously had a heart attack participated in the study. By analyzing information about the health status of the subjects, scientists clarified the presence of chronic diseases. 51% of heart attack survivors were diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

Further analysis showed that kidney disease increased the risk of sudden cardiac arrest by more than sevenfold. Alcoholism – 4.5 times, atrial fibrillation (a type of arrhythmia) – four times, previous stroke and ischemia – three times, heart failure – 2.5 times, type 2 diabetes – 1.5 times.

The authors added that more research is needed including other ethnic groups.

Previous scientists defined A new kind of cardiovascular disease.
