Many job seekers flatter or understate their skills to a potential employer when applying for a job. Yulia Subbotina, head of the recruitment group of the Rabota.ru service, told socialbites.ca in an interview what the threat of deception is.
1. Relationship with former boss and colleagues
There is often a situation in life where people disagree with the leader or colleagues, and this becomes the reason for leaving the job. If a recruiter is interested in how the relationship with the team has developed at the previous workplace, the main thing is not to go into details, say that they do not want to reveal the inner workings, and in general indicate that it is colleagues. or managers are qualified experts and good people.
You should immediately think about what values are important to you and how you see yourself the ideal team and leader. This will help the recruiter quickly understand whether you really have certain principles that the previous employer did not share, or if you risk becoming a conflicted person anyway.
2. Skills and competencies
If you think you can catch some skills quickly – and at the same time you are 100% sure about it – you can embellish. But when it comes to the basic skills you need to demonstrate every day in a new place, you risk being exposed as soon as you start your assignment. By the way, that’s why you shouldn’t lie about your position at a previous job: if you’ve been hired as a manager and you’ve never managed a department, or even a small team, this will quickly become apparent.
3. Income
Applicants often exaggerate their income level in interviews. But employers are also familiar with this trick and can check the actual numbers. Even if your requests fit perfectly into the fork offered by the employer, the applicant may be very embarrassed to be so cunning in an interview. This may make him wonder how honest you are in general and where else lies could be revealed.
“If you were hired and a lie was exposed as a result, maybe the employer will try to find a reason to fire you. Only according to paragraph 11 of part 1 of Art. there is no legal justification for an unequivocal refusal to lie. 81 of the Labor Code – in connection with the employee submitting false documents to the employer when concluding an employment contract. In addition, it is worth remembering that many companies, before hiring a new employee, arrange a check by the internal security service, ”he said.
