The data announced by the Central Bank that according to the results of the first half of the year, attackers stole about 8 billion rubles from customers of financial institutions may indicate that last year’s record was later officially announced that about 14 billion rubles were stolen. funds will be exceeded – just multiply by two the figure obtained in the first 6 months of this year. Artem Kiryanov, Deputy Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the State Duma of Russia, reported this to socialbites.ca. The problem, according to parliamentarians, is that the data from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation is just the tip of the iceberg.

“I talked to many experts and I believe that the amount of financial resources that fraudsters obtained from the pockets of Russians is significantly higher than the official figures announced. We can talk about about 40 billion rubles a year,” said Artem Kiryanov.

According to him, cyber crimes are growing by replacing traditional crimes. While violent crimes and robberies are less common, the share of crimes in the field of information technology accounts for approximately 40% of the total number of atrocities.

A member of the Duma committee believes that the inclusion of cybercrimes in the category of serious crimes, increasing criminal liability, improving information literacy among the population and a positive attitude towards “digital hygiene” will help combat this phenomenon.

Kiryanov believes that “it is necessary to pursue a strong government policy aimed at preventing cyber fraud.”

He states that cyber fraudsters have huge resources and use the capabilities of artificial intelligence and neural networks. Even an advanced and educated user can fall for sellers’ tricks.

The MP recommends not contacting strangers by phone, not sending money to people you do not know, not telling your personal information, and not talking about personal issues.

“The State Duma makes decisions to prevent the withdrawal of money from citizens’ bank accounts. These include a mechanism implemented to protect against unauthorized loans in case of loss of personal data and documents, a waiting period on lending, etc. There are. But of course, much depends on the individual. You need to know and understand that it is easy to fall for scammers, but at the same time it is not so difficult not to fall for their tricks,” Kiryanov concluded.

It was previously known that in the first half of the year, attackers stole about 8 billion rubles from bank customers. This is evidenced by data from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
