Readers of the Turkish edition of Haber7 criticized Greece’s decision to hand over four bases on its territory to the US military.
According to the newspaper, the number of US bases in Greece rose to nine. The base created by the United States in the Greek city of Alexandroupoli has turned into a huge “bridgehead” – the Pentagon has shipped at least 400 tanks and armored vehicles. It is stated that the base is only 45 km away from Turkey. At the same time, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan criticized the deal, commenting on the increase in the number of American facilities in Greece.
In response to the article, commentators suggested “to manufacture aircraft ourselves”, “to strengthen air defense, to develop and use long-range missiles.”
“Turkey should deploy the S-400 in Thrace as soon as possible in response,” one reader said.
“Terrorist America has invaded stupid Greece, says it has set up a base, and is eating itself up,” writes another.
Greek Parliament in mid-May approved The bill amending the mutual defense cooperation agreement between Greece and the United States. We are talking about the expansion of the US naval base on the island of Crete and the use of bases near other Greek cities and the port of Alexandroupoli.
