Researchers from the University of Essex (UK) and the University of Adelaide in Australia found that the stress of having to rent a house accelerates aging. In this respect reports Daily mail.

Biological aging is associated with a decrease in the functions of tissues and cells in the body. Stressful events can accelerate biological aging, regardless of a person’s actual age.

1,420 people participated in the research. Scientists sought to understand whether stressful factors, such as having to pay rent regularly, were associated with premature aging. Duration and cost of rental, building type, availability of state financial support, central heating and debt payments were taken into account. The scientists also collected information about the subjects’ health conditions and took blood samples from them.

The researchers analyzed the resulting samples to monitor DNA methylation. DNA methylation is a biological process in which methyl groups are added to a DNA molecule. Methylation can change the activity of a section of DNA. Disruption of this process leads to premature aging and diseases such as cancer, diabetes and asthma.

It turns out that DNA methylation disorders associated with premature aging are mostly seen in people who rent a house in an area with poor ecology and cannot pay their rent on time.

This stressor may be more likely to trigger premature aging than smoking, the researchers noted.

early scientists saidWhat foods can slow skin aging and protect against cancer.
