Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers can rightfully be considered one of the most important professional holidays for Russia. This was stated by political scientist Petr Kolchin, analyst at the Center for Expert Support of Political Processes.
According to him, agriculture and the agro-industrial complex have historically been one of the priority areas of the country’s economy.
“This orientation ensures food security and food sovereignty, and therefore there is a large degree of stability in society,” the expert emphasized.
He recalled that in the nineties, some political forces tried to prove that agriculture had lost its importance for the country and was no longer so relevant and interesting in the development of agriculture.
“But the developing geopolitical reality showed the error of these judgments. Already at the beginning of the 21st century, Russian President Vladimir Putin set a course for the revival and modernization of this sector of the economy. “Today, agriculture in Russia is a very dynamically developing field that uses the latest technologies of domestic production,” Kolchin noted.
According to him, the political path followed after the start of sanctions pressure in 2014 allowed domestic agriculture to capture the Russian market, expand production capacity and even begin to expand exports to other countries in the future.
“Every citizen of Russia now sees the effectiveness of this presidential policy. Today the country is one of the main players in the food market. We are a leader in grain exports, especially wheat, and we ensure the food security of many countries. “In the context of the food crisis that started during the Covid period, Russia’s economic impact is gradually increasing thanks to its developed agricultural sector,” he emphasized.
Kolchin emphasized that, in fact, Russia has become one of the main guarantors of global food security, which is also reflected in the country’s foreign policy.
“As Putin stated, our country is ready to provide free aid to starving African countries facing a food crisis amid global problems in this area. In this way, we assert our role as a guarantor and stabilizer of food security worldwide. We do not talk about the problems or make a big deal about them like many countries. We solve current problems with specific actions and solutions supported by many countries around the world,” the political scientist concluded.
Let us remind you that the Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers is celebrated in Russia every year on the second Sunday of October.
