The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Nargiz Mohammadi, Iranian activist and vice president of the human rights group Defenders of Human Rights. reported On the Nobel Committee’s website.

It was noted that the Muhammadi Award was given “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and for supporting human rights and freedoms.” In 2023, the jackpot reached 11 million Swedish crowns (about $1 million).

The committee said Muhammadi is currently in custody. Iranian authorities arrested the woman 13 times because of these speeches and she was sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison.

Since the award’s inception, women have won the award 18 times.
