Scientists from Saint Louis University identified the most erogenous zones on the penises of circumcised and uncircumcised men. The results of the study were presented as follows: magazine Journal of Sexual Medicine (JSM).
The effects of male circumcision on sexual function are controversial. Some studies suggest that circumcision increases the sensitivity of the head, while others deny this.
In the new study, researchers included 227 circumcised and 175 uncircumcised men. They were all shown images of 12 anatomical regions of the penis. Subjects were asked to identify areas they enjoyed being touched during sex with their partners and rate each on a scale of 1 to 10.
Significantly more circumcised men reported a preference for the tip of the penis (38% versus 17%) and the middle third of the ventral shaft of the penis (63% versus 48%). However, there was no significant difference in orgasm quality between the two groups.
“Our results suggest that circumcision does not change how men describe genital erogenous sensations or experience orgasm, but there are some minor differences,” the authors said.
