Nutritionists working with British sports nutrition brand The Protein Works have identified a link between certain foods eaten at breakfast and energy levels throughout the day. It turns out that coffee, protein, and complex carbohydrates are the best options for those who want to stay productive throughout the day. In this respect reports Health News.
32 adults participated in the study. The first group ate no breakfast, and the second group drank only coffee. While the subjects in the third group had breakfast with foods rich in carbohydrates and sugar, the subjects in the fourth group consumed protein.
The study found that subjects who skipped breakfast experienced a decrease in their productivity from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This group also felt tired in the afternoon. On the contrary, coffee drinkers saw an increase in their energy levels from 9:00 to 12:00. However, at 13:00, subjects in this group felt less alert. Researchers state that it may be beneficial to drink another cup of coffee after 12:00 to get extra energy. You can also cheer yourself up by eating a healthy snack or taking a short walk.
Subjects who ate high-sugar foods for breakfast were more alert for an hour after the meal. By 12:00 p.m., participants’ productivity had dropped. However, nutritionists emphasized that although the subjects did not eat too many carbohydrates at lunch, their energy levels increased again between 16.00 and 17.00.
The group that ate a protein-rich breakfast experienced no decrease in productivity throughout the day. The authors noted that this nutrient provides energy by stimulating cognitive function and also helps keep blood sugar levels more stable.
Researchers concluded that a combination of each type of product would be most effective. Brown rice, fruits and vegetables, beans, bread and grains are rich in complex carbohydrates and provide energy. Consider nuts, cheese and peanut butter as protein sources that will help you stay full longer. A moderate amount of coffee will also help you stay alert throughout the day.
