The latter is often used, for example, during childbirth or orthopedic operations, while the donor does not feel anything. Only general anesthesia is used in children. An alternative to bone marrow collection is peripheral blood cell transplantation.
“If peripheral blood cells are to be transplanted, we first use special methods to ‘excrete’ the hematopoietic cells from the bone marrow into the blood, and from there we remove them in a safe and fairly easy procedure.
