Species reintroduction
The NGO has already carried out large-scale translocations of wild species in Rwanda, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. “African Parks has a clear goal: We will reintroduce these rhinos to safe areas over the next decade and good management, establishing or completing strategic populations and thus keeping the future of the species out of danger.”
The conservation organization described this project as “one of the largest attempts to repopulate a species on the entire African continent.”
The white rhino is currently facing extreme pressure on the continent due to their horns being poached for the wildlife trade, which leaves the number below 13,000.
White rhino population recovery
In the 1930s the number of species reached an all-time low of 30 to 40 animals.but thanks to conservation measures, there were up to 20,000 specimens in 2012.
