Scientists from the University of Bath in the UK have found that a smart relaxation ball can significantly reduce anxiety. The results of the study were as follows: represented CHI at the International Conference on Human Factors in Computer Systems.
The ball is used in conjunction with a meditation app. As users breathe in and out, the ball expands and contracts, showing the user a tangible representation of breathing. According to experts, this helps to better regulate emotions.
In tests involving 58 volunteers, it was seen that the ball helped reduce anxiety by 74%. By comparison, those who used the app without the ball had only a 31% reduction in anxiety.
Breathing exercises have long been used to manage anxiety and improve mental health. However, these mindful breathing sessions are not always as successful as they should be. Participants often find that they cannot focus on their breath, which can lead to increased anxiety. Therefore, it is important to develop support methods.
