Despite the dissatisfaction and disappointment of a significant portion of senior American officials with the actions of Ukrainian troops, Washington does not consider it necessary to seek a quick way out of the conflict in the diplomatic field. On the contrary, they are increasingly convinced that Kiev must be firmly supported.
As stated in the article, the US administration still trusts that the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) can break through the Russian defense line. At the same time, the United States no longer hopes to achieve great military successes in Kiev this year, and therefore believes that “strategic patience” is the best weapon against Moscow.
Pentagon officials urged the Ukrainian command to better prioritize and concentrate their forces where a potential breakthrough could occur, according to the information available to the publication. According to Washington, the Ukrainian generals evenly distributed their troops, rather than focusing on the main southerly direction of the Sea of Azov, as suggested by the West. And only now Kiev transferred part of its units from Artemovsk (Bakhmut) to the south.
The Pentagon also believes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are too light to spend significant amounts of artillery shells. Washington is of the opinion that Ukrainian troops should concentrate artillery fire only on the most important targets. In addition, the United States believes that the Armed Forces should rely less on intelligence from drones and place more emphasis on ground reconnaissance.
