A Texas person in the United States has been fined a record for distributing private photo and video content online with his ex-girlfriend. In this respect informs Washingtonpost.
The victim sued her ex-boyfriend in 2022. The lawsuit states that the man created a website, created a public folder with the photos on Dropbox, started several fake social media profiles, and from those profiles sent obscene photos of himself to relatives, colleagues and strangers. The woman demanded $ 100 million in moral compensation for the damage done by the man.
The couple were together for four years, after which the relationship ended in a bitter breakup: The man believed that his ex-girlfriend was with mutual friends and held a grudge against her. He followed his ex-partner for a long time and then decided on his porn revenge and started distributing the content he had. The man had access to the cameras in his mother’s house, where the woman lived, by filming without her partner’s knowledge.
Due to the actions of her ex-partner, the woman developed post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal thoughts visited her. The victim repeatedly turned to the police with complaints about the persecution of the young man, but the law enforcement agencies were ineffective.
Justice was achieved only after going to court.
The jury found the man guilty and increased the penalty from $100 million to $1.2 billion. Such a decision, according to one of the woman’s lawyers, shows society’s disdain for such persecution. The attorney hopes the amount disclosed will “activate the Internet” and help prevent other cases of revenge porn.
