An Electron rocket developed by Rocket Lab successfully took off from New Zealand on Thursday and launched Capella Space’s Acadia Earth Remote Sensing (ERS) satellite into orbit. He writes about it”Interfax“.
The Electron rocket launch, called the We Love Nightlife mission, took place at 11:45 am local time (2:45 am Moscow time) from the launch site on New Zealand’s Mahia Peninsula. With a mass of 160 kg, the spacecraft will be placed into orbit about an hour after launch.
The Acadia satellite will be equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and placed in a 640 km orbit. It will offer high resolution images up to 0.3 meters and ensure the fastest delivery of orders for government agencies and private customers.
Capella Space plans to create a constellation of 36 satellites that will allow images of any part of the planet to be taken at intervals of no more than an hour.
In 2020, Capella Space signed contracts with the Pentagon and the US National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) to provide synthetic aperture radar data to the US Navy and other government and civilian users. The company is part of the US intelligence community.
