Researchers from the University of Helsinki (Finland) have found that red meat, which is harmful to the body, can be partially replaced by legumes. This will provide the body with the necessary amino acids and proteins, without affecting the condition of bone tissue. The results of the scientists’ work were presented by the journal British Journal of Nutrition (BJN).
Red meat is the meat of mammals namely pork, veal, beef, lamb, lamb, goat and horse meat. Consuming too much of this product increases the risk of colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity and other diseases.
But you should not completely abandon the product: red meat is rich in protein, but also a source of iron, zinc, phosphorus and B vitamins. All these substances are necessary for the body to maintain the normal functioning of the internal organs, nervous and endocrine systems.
In their study, the authors recruited 102 men who were divided into two groups. The first ate 760 grams of red meat per week (25% of total protein intake), the second ate legume-based foods for 20% of their total protein and only 200 grams of meat.
At the beginning and end of the study, the volunteers went through a health assessment. The authors found no differences between the groups in terms of osteoporosis and other indicators – proving that meat can be partially replaced with beans without harming the body.
ancient scientists established Foods that reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s by 50%.
