Researchers at Texas A&M International University found that a woman’s interest in short-term sexual relationships depends on whether she prefers masculine facial features. The results of the research have been published magazine Sexual Behavior Archives.
To conduct the study, the authors recruited 72 women who completed a questionnaire about their sex lives. Women were also asked to view pairs of male faces (one masculine, the other more feminine) presented on a computer screen. Each photo was shown for 3000ms, during which time the scientists watched the movement of the volunteers’ eyes. After viewing the images, participants were asked to rate the attractiveness of male faces on a 7-point scale.
Women who were more interested in short-term relationships and found themselves more attractive looked longer at the faces of men with more masculine features. The results of the new study are consistent with previous scientific papers that also used eye-tracking technology.
