Denis Sharonov said that he was twice criminally prosecuted in his homeland. He was acquitted and rehabilitated twice.
According to RTVI, a criminal case was brought against the former official in 2005 under Part 2 of Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Abuse of Power), in 2016-2017 – a case under Part 3 of Art. 59 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud committed by a person using his official position, as well as on a large scale”).
