Recently, there has been a growing need to develop alternative native sites. This was expressed by Sergey Grebennikov, director of the Russian Electronic Communications Association (RAEC).
He remembered that YouTube had once become a unique video hosting and it was difficult for other video services to compete with it.
“If before there was no urgent need for import substitution of video hosting, more and more Russian video bloggers have recently begun to face a biased moderation policy, removal of content and even entire channels. Therefore, it has become necessary, if not completely replaced, to at least more actively develop alternative domestic sites, ”said Grebennikov.
He pointed out that domestic platforms attract writers, with monetization opportunities currently limited by YouTube for Russian video bloggers and more predictable and understandable moderation rules.
“As the service is based on one of the most popular social networks, VK Video has great potential. The main thing now is that a lot of exclusive content appears there. And it’s great that this is no longer just a part of the social network, but a separate application: it is convenient and can attract new users who do not use VKontakte so actively, ”she concluded.
Recall that VK introduced a beta version of the VK Video mobile application for iOS. It previously appeared on Google Play and RuStore platforms for Android users. According to the developers, the functionality and recommendation algorithms of the mobile application will be improved during the beta testing period, taking into account the requests and feedback of the platform audience. Suggestions from the authors will also be accepted. A full-scale launch is planned for the fall.
