At a certain moment that night, an acquaintance of the complainant, the boyfriend of a friend, wanted to borrow his cell phone, claiming that his battery was dead and he needed to make an urgent call. The young man went to the bathroom to carry out the call in question, and after lingering for a few minutes without leaving the bathroom, he complained. It seemed strange that it took so long to make the call. and was suspected of spying on its contents. However, when he went out and picked up the phone again, he did not observe anything strange.

The unpleasant surprise came the next day, when the young woman received a call from a friend and reported that several sexually explicit photos had been sent to a group of several people. The friend also stated that the person who spread them without his consent was an acquaintance who had borrowed his mobile terminal the previous day.

The police allegedly concluded that the detainee wanted the victim’s mobile phone, taking advantage of her goodwill and the fact that the terminal was unlocked and freely at her disposal to access all kinds of files and photos. Up to 21 private photos of the complainant were sent to his/her own phone, These were taken when the girl was still young.

Hours after the false call, the young man sent some of these images to an instant messaging group shared by others hours later, and so agents arrested him for allegedly committing crimes against privacy after he was identified and located. The detainee is a 19-year-old Spaniard who was presented to the Alicante duty court.

Police warnings against “sexting”
