Scientists record earliest case of Alzheimer’s

Neuroscientists and neurologists from Capital Medical University in Beijing diagnosed a 19-year-old Chinese man with Alzheimer’s disease. The youngest patient with a similar diagnosis was reported in a published study. magazine Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (JoAD).

According to doctors, the young man began complaining of concentration problems at the age of 17, since then the condition has worsened and he began to experience short-term memory loss, difficulty reading and expressing emotions. He was officially diagnosed after passing tests to identify acquired dementia.

Alzheimer’s disease usually occurs in old age, but there are rare cases where it occurs before the age of 30. Then the appearance of a neurodegenerative disease is due to the presence of hereditary mutations in the genes. In this case, however, no abnormalities were found in the study of genes responsible for early memory loss. In addition, none of the family members of the 19-year-old teenager had a history of dementia.

Doctors say this case reverses the prevailing idea about the typical age of onset of the disease.
