On the shores of the Barents Sea, the carcasses of a young six-metre whale, no more than five years old, were thrown out. This was reported by Telegram channel Puree.
The dead whale found on the Fisherman’s Peninsula probably died due to human activities, because in nature whales do not die at this age and the animal does not show signs of exhaustion. A possible cause is the acoustic effect of a geological airgun or active anti-submarine sonar (sonar).
Formerly zoologists laid responsible for the deaths of baby whales on predatory seagulls.
The research team concluded that the gull attacks did not directly kill the fry: instead, they made them less healthy and “hardy”, making it harder for them to survive seasonal migrations. Photographs have shown that fewer offspring have survived after migration since 1990.
