Iveri Kizitsky, psychiatrist and narcologist at SCH.CLINIC, told socialbites.ca that after a full rehabilitation period, 60% of mephedrone-dependent patients do not return to drug use.
“Those at 40% are just repeating the cycle. This is walking through torment. The person standing in the first place has just turned into a psychiatric patient. They ceased to be narcological patients – that is, you stopped using the drug. But it’s not because they’re starting a sober life, it’s just because they feel so bad, they don’t have the resources to use it at least once. And you are now nothing more than a psychiatrist’s patient. So I’ve been using it for five years and now you’re shaking from every phone call, you don’t understand compound sentences. But you are walking, you are still physically healthy, ”Kizitsky explained.
According to the expert, it will not work to use mephedrone more than 20 times without a trace for the soul – in one of the applications, a person will definitely experience psychosis, and then go to a clinic.
“Detoxification and psychopharmacotherapy selection takes place in parallel with our elimination of psychosis during treatment. Medicines are necessary, as they compensate for the damage and stabilize the psycho-emotional state. A rehabilitation course of at least six months is also required. This is already outside the clinic, in the rehab center. So the healing path is at least 7 months, a year is better. This is the time it takes to go from minus to zero, ”Kizitsky explained.
That is, stopping the course of treatment – for a year, then supportive – up to five years, preventing relapse – until life, because the damage done is irreversible.
