According to Strana.UA, the Kiev Solomensky District Court detained the head of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Pavel (Lebed), until August 14.

It was noted that the court accepted the request of the prosecutors to convert the restraining measure applied for Metropolitan Pavel from day and night house arrest to detention with 33 million hryvnias on bail.

The judge also noted that the detention will last until August 14, 2023.

Metropolitan Pavel, in response to this, stated that he did not agree with the decision of the court on his arrest, and emphasized that he did not have the money to pay bail.

Before that, the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office asked the court decided that Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed) of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra should send his priest into custody until September 1 with the possibility of paying bail in the amount of 60 million hryvnia.

The previous day, the prosecutor’s office announced a new suspicion of the cleric, accused of “inciting religious hatred” and “justifying the actions of the Russian Federation”.

On July 13, the Security Service of Ukraine announced on its Telegram channel that it presented new doubts to the rector of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Pavel.
