A team of archaeologists has discovered a giant 25,000-year-old sloth bone ornament in central Brazil. The results of the research were published by the journal. Proceedings of the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

Dating of the sloth bone ornaments has shown them to be between 25,000 and 27,000 years old. This suggests that the first humans arrived in South America much earlier, after migrating from Africa and then Eurasia.

In addition, the study may indicate that humans walked the continent at the same time as the now-extinct giant sloth (Glossotherium phoenesis). The size of these animals was comparable to the size of modern elephants: their length was about 4 meters, and their weight reached 1500 kilograms.

Scientists formerly at the University of Vienna discovered oldest genetic data of a human relative.
