The warning, issued by the All-Russian Civil Defense and Emergency Research Institute (VNII GOChS), states that abnormal heat could damage railways in Russia’s four federal regions, including bending of rails.
In the Urals Federal District, Tomsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Astrakhan regions and Bashkiria, the air temperature is 3-8 degrees above the climatic norm, with the risk of overheating of substations.
It is also possible to shut down refrigeration units, air conditioning systems and power supply. VNII GOChS noted that the possibility of deformation of the railway line continues throughout the current week.
A state of emergency (ES) has been declared in the Omsk region due to the abnormal temperature. A statement to this effect was signed by Deputy Governor Vitaliy Khotsenko.
