A study by scientists from the University of Montreal helped identify occupations associated with an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer in women. study published magazine Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The scientists analyzed the health data of more than 1,000 women aged 18 to 79, of which 491 were diagnosed and 879 were not.

As it turns out, working for ten years or more as an accountant, hairdresser, ophthalmologist and beautician can come with an increased risk of contracting the disease. Employees in the sales, retail, apparel and construction industries are also vulnerable.

Moreover, work in construction was associated with triple risk, and in accounting – with double risk. Working long hours in the clothing industry increased the risk of contracting the disease by 85%, while working in the sales or retail industry increased the risks by 45% and 59%.

The team reported that hairdressers and beauticians are most commonly exposed to carcinogenic chemicals, including ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, organic dyes and pigments, and bleaches. Office workers have a higher risk of developing ovarian cancer due to sedentary work.

Meanwhile, they found that women who worked as professional nurses had a reduced risk of developing ovarian cancer.
