Auto thieves’ preferences may change as new car brands enter the Russian market. This point of view was voiced by Anton Shaparin, vice president of the National Automobile Association (NAS), in an interview he gave to the radio. Sputnik.
The expert believes that with the growing demand for Chinese cars in Russia, the interest of criminals in them will increase. The Kaiyi sedan produced in Kaliningrad will be particularly at risk.
Shaparin predicts that within three years, the number of “Chinese” kidnapped will increase, including hijackings and license plates. The most affordable and sought-after taxi cab, Kaiyi believes the sedan will be the most vulnerable. This brand is assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.
When production reaches high capacity, it will become one of the leaders in theft due to the high demand for the car. Shaparin also states that pirates will pay attention to new brands that will be widely used in the domestic market. He explains that passes from China won’t greatly affect theft statistics as they are sold in small quantities. But BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz cars will not be at risk of theft as they are equipped with reliable security systems. At the same time, two Hyundai and KIA models will occupy the top positions in the theft “rating”.
Thus, with the emergence of new brand cars on the Russian market, the preferences of car thieves may change, and Chinese cars, especially the Kaiyi sedan, will be at greater risk of theft. But premium vehicles such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz will remain relatively safe from theft thanks to their robust protection systems.
But for the most part, Lada cars are included in the theft statistics, and the situation is unlikely to change, since this brand is the leader in the Russian market, Shaparin concluded.
