Scientists from the University of Queensland in Australia discovered that people choose sexual partners who are similar to themselves. The results of the research have been published magazine Evolution and Human Behavior.

682 people participated in the study – all volunteers were divided into pairs and offered to communicate with each other for three minutes. After that, all participants filled out a questionnaire with questions about what traits they liked in their partner and which ones they didn’t like. They then communicated with other participants and filled out the questionnaire as well. In total, scientists have recorded more than 1000 such interactions.

After the study’s authors analyzed the questionnaires and photographs of all the subjects to assess how similar the people were to each other. The results showed that the more alike the partners, the more attractive they find each other.

The scientists note that this pattern may not be maintained by longer communication – this can be found with longer studies.
