Scientists from Ken Hee University in Korea have developed an anti-acne medicine formula based on herbal ingredients. The results of the research have been published magazine medicines.
Acne is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that occurs when dead skin cells and sebum clog the hair follicle. Typical symptoms of this condition can also be comedones, pustules, oily skin, and scarring. Most often, the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Propionibacterium granulosum, as well as staphylococci and skin mites act as the causative agent. Normally, these microorganisms are conditional pathogens. In other words, they do not cause disease unless certain conditions are met. In this case, microorganisms take action and begin to cause damage with excessive sebum production.
Many treatments are available for acne, such as retinoids and topical microbial agents used in conjunction with chemical peels and hormonal treatments. However, these procedures are relatively expensive and can cause side effects.
A number of scientific papers have evaluated plant extracts as a cost-effective alternative to these treatments. Including extracts of the lacquer tree (Rhus verniciflua – RV), but can cause allergies. In the new study, the authors proposed a formula that would not cause such reactions.
The formula, called FRO, contains fermented extracts of RV and Orostachys japonicus (Japanese griswort) in a one-to-one ratio. Experimental results showed that FRO successfully inhibited acne growth. The formula has a significant antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect.
