Allowing yourself to grieve, making to-do lists to reduce anxiety, and doing relaxation exercises are ways to deal with post-vacation depression. This was told socialbites.ca by the psychologist of the medical online service SberHealth Daria Yausheva.
Depression due to returning to work can begin in the last days of vacation. To reduce its severity, you need to plan a gradual return to the normal rhythm of life.
“It is important to set aside at least one day to switch. If you have to work on Monday, it is better to return on Saturday. It is also worth making a to-do list – it will help reduce anxiety. To restore the emotional state, Yausheva also needs to include pleasant activities: meetings with friends, walks, etc.
The expert added that it’s important to establish boundaries between work and private life, and to determine when you can answer emails or calls.
According to the psychologist, relaxation techniques that return to the “here and now” can help: focus on breathing, “anchor” (pay attention to surrounding sounds, objects, smells), focus on what you are doing (technical “one thing at a time”). You can use journaling or writing techniques to express negative emotions, give yourself support, and structure your thoughts.
“You don’t need to demand much of yourself when you return. It is worth allowing yourself to feel sorry for yourself and get into the regimen as smoothly as possible, gradually returning to your usual schedule. There are those who are helped when they bring a piece of the holiday to work: souvenirs brought from the holiday, photos, aromatic diffusers, ”the psychologist concluded.
