Scientists from the University of Michigan have found that the effect of electrical impulses on the clitoris can increase sexual desire in women. The results of the study are presented in the preprint catalogue. medRxiv and is considered preliminary before publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
The study included five women with sexual dysfunction, including two with spinal cord injuries. Before the eclectic stimulation session, women were asked to rate their sexual arousal on a scale of one to five.
At the clinic, researchers placed two small, round electrodes on the women’s clitoris and stimulated them with weak electrical pulses for 30 minutes.
The results showed that in the three women without spinal cord injury, arousal increased by one to two points on a five-point scale. Two women with spinal injuries had an impressive increase in arousal of two to three points.
During the session, the scientists stimulated the dorsal genital nerve, which runs on either side of the clitoral body and is responsible for the organ’s sensitivity. The participants did not experience any side effects of the treatment.
In future studies, scientists will test the effect of watching porn or other stimuli on the effect of the procedure.
