Evgeny Geinrikh, a Russian-German lawyer and attorney at Lidings Law Firm, says the increasing number of arrests for cars with Russian license plates violates German law and European Union regulation banning the importation of Russian goods. It has been reported DEA News.

According to the human rights activist, the detentions may have been the result of a misinterpretation.

In Germany, the number of precedents increased as customs officers confiscated cars with Russian numbers.

The owners are accused of violating the country’s law “On Foreign Trade” and Council of Europe Regulation 833/2024.

“People have not committed any crimes and cannot be subject to any criminal prosecution. Accordingly, the arrest of the car as a means of evidence is absolutely unacceptable,” Heinrich added.

As Heinrich emphasizes, all known cases of vehicle arrest are due to misinterpretation of regulation 833/2014. This meant banning the importation of goods into the customs territory, including cars, trucks, trailers and semi-trailers.

“This is either insufficient knowledge of legislation or unwillingness to investigate its meaning and structure …” said the expert.

Former US Treasury extended sanctions against Russia.
