Although acid rain is feared by many, it is generally harmless and quite rare, but peaks in July. This was told socialbites.ca by a candidate of chemical sciences, a former employee of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University. Lomonosov Irina Eremina.

pH is used to measure acidity. It can take values from 1 to 14, the number 7 is in the middle. Less than seven is considered acidic and more is considered alkaline, Eremina explained.

“Summer precipitation corresponds to the lowest average pH values and the highest peak is in July. And they’re closer to six on average in winter. Usually in the summer, even from May to September, the average pH values are below five, that is, the monthly average pH was acidic, ”said Eremin socialbites.ca.

The scientist noted that the acidity of rain depends on temperature, pollution, humidity and emissions. In general, acid rain falls more than five times a year, and sometimes less.

“From 1999 to 2004, there was no acid rain. It seems that during these years the industry in Moscow was idle. Surprised, I double checked all my devices. Summer is coming and the acid rain is gone again. But they reappeared in 2005 and continue to decline to the present day,” Eremina concluded.

Formerly chemist Eremina announcednot to be afraid of acid rain.
