Scientists from George Washington University have developed a 12-week program to treat memory and attention disorders. Research published magazine Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease Reports.

A total of 223 participants, including children and adults, participated in the study over a two-year period. These include 71 people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), 88 people with post-concussion syndrome (PCS), and 64 people with moderate mental impairment, including memory that often precedes the development of dementia.

The 12-week program, tailored for each participant, consisted of twice-weekly brain training, stress-reducing exercises, and lifestyle changes, resulting in significant improvements in patients’ memory, attention, mood, and/or sleep. The program was effective for 60-90% of participants: they scored higher on mental function tests and also reported a reduction in symptoms that bothered them.

Another study by the authors of the program showed that the program helped 84% of older people with cognitive impairment achieve significant improvements in brain function.

The scientists’ results provide additional scientific evidence for the effectiveness of interdisciplinary personalized interventions.
