Nerve stimulation can reduce incontinence in women

Doctors at Ashford Hospital have found that transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation can be beneficial in relieving incontinence in women with an overactive bladder. Research published Journal of Clinical Medicine.

The study included 166 women with overactive bladder syndrome. Nerve stimulation was applied to the patients once a week for 12 weeks. 51 women from the original group completed the second phase of the experiment and returned for 12 stimulation sessions over the next six months.

The researchers found a significant reduction in urge to urinate, nocturnal urination, and frequency of incontinence and incontinence compared to baseline by 29.8%, 29.8%, 31.0%, and 33.8%, respectively. A significant decrease (56.5%) was observed in the frequency of urination in patients who completed the second phase of the experiment.
