SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, announced that a Falcon 9 rocket has launched the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Euclidean telescope into orbit. This was stated on Twitter SpaceX.

“Thanks for the SpaceX Falcon 9 flight. Euclid has already been launched into space,” the message says.

The launch was made from Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA.

Euclid is equipped with a 1.2 m telescope, an optical camera, a spectrometer and a near-infrared photometer. Euclid weighs two tons, reaches 4.7 meters in height and 3.5 meters in width. It will need to take the same orbit as James Webb – at point L2 of the Earth-Sun system, the Earth will be between it and the Sun.

Telescope will build A three-dimensional map of the universe observing it in the visible range and near infrared. Euclid’s main goal is to better understand the nature and distribution of dark matter and dark energy by accurately measuring the expansion acceleration of the universe.

Formerly NASA’s James Webb Telescope discovered the first strands of the cosmic web.
