Scientists at Ben-Gurion University in the Negev have found that adding the naturally occurring substance bisindole to toothpastes and mouthwashes can help prevent plaque and cavities. Research published in the journal antibiotics.

In laboratory experiments on microbes, scientists found that 3,3′-diindolylmethane (DIM), a naturally occurring molecule also known as bisindole, reduced bacterial biofilms by 90%. S. mutants.
