Increased sweating (hyperhidrosis) is not due to weather conditions. This may be a hereditary factor, as well as the presence of concomitant diseases. This was told socialbites.ca by Ekaterina Terentyeva, general practitioner and head of the medical examination department at INVITRO.

According to the expert, hyperhidrosis can be primary and secondary. Primary is often associated with heredity. Its symptoms begin in childhood and worsen during adolescence. Secondary hyperhidrosis occurs against the background of various diseases or conditions: viral or bacterial infections, endocrine diseases, injuries or diseases of the nervous system, panic attacks, neurosis.

“Also, hormonal changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy or menopause may be accompanied by increased sweating. During the age-related decline in testosterone levels in men, there may also be intense sweating, especially at night.

Hyperhidrosis rarely causes any complications, but it causes psychological discomfort and prevents the person from living a normal daily life.

“With hyperhidrosis, the risk of developing inflammatory skin diseases increases due to prolonged contact of the skin with sweat, which leads to the appearance of stretch marks. In addition, hyperhidrosis contributes to the development of fungal diseases. If excessive sweating is a symptom of other diseases, it is a disease that cannot be diagnosed for a long time, and complications may occur due to untreated.

You can make life easier in the presence of hyperhidrosis with the help of simple rules: give up tight shoes, wear clothes made of natural fabrics, avoid strong stress, reduce the amount of spicy and smoked foods, as well as coffee and alcohol.

“Treatment options for hyperhidrosis depend on the cause. If it is a symptom of any disease, the disease should be treated directly.
Generally, cosmetic antiperspirants are used to reduce the intensity of hyperhidrosis in areas of increased sweating. These products also prevent the development of bacteria that cause bad breath on the skin. One treatment option for hyperhidrosis is laser therapy. Under the influence of the laser, most of the cells of the sweat glands in the subcutaneous fat layer are destroyed. This method helps reduce the amount of sweat produced. Surgical treatment may be indicated for the treatment of severe hyperhidrosis,” said the physician.

Another effective treatment for hyperhidrosis is botulinum toxin injections. The effect of the botulinum treatment procedure can last 6-8 months or more.
Some of the disadvantages of the method, the doctor concluded: high cost, the need to repeat the procedure 2-3 times a year, in rare cases there may be long pain after injections, the doctor concluded.

Formerly a neurologist judicial dangerous causes of palm sweating.
