Since any well is an open source of water, dangerous pathogens such as cholera, typhoid fever, viral hepatitis A and salmonellosis can enter it. Leading expert Mikhail Lebedev, head of the research and information support group for medical institutions at the CMD Molecular Diagnostic Center of the Rospotrebnadzor Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, told socialbites.ca.

“Every well is an open source of water, so various bacteria, viruses, chemicals and pollutants can always get into it. First of all, these are pathogens of water-borne infectious diseases: acute intestinal infections – dysentery, escherichiosis, salmonellosis, viral hepatitis A, cholera. , typhoid and paratyphoid fever, ”explained Lebedev socialbites.ca.

According to the expert, the following factors can contribute to pollution: weather conditions, the condition of the soil and groundwater, the location of the well close to potential sources of pollution (gardens, cesspools, cesspools, country toilets, dumps, places where pets are kept), shallow depth of the well shaft, open well shaft.

“To protect the well from contamination, it should be located at the maximum distance from cesspools, cesspools, toilets and other drainage structures. In addition, regular maintenance and cleaning should be done, filters should be used. It is better to boil the water in the well before drinking or use bottled water to drink, ”the expert said.

But Lebedev emphasized that even if the water from the well looks absolutely clean, no one can guarantee its purity and safety. Water quality can only be assessed by conducting a study in an accredited laboratory, for example, at the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology at the place of residence.

According to the research of the World Health Organization (WHO), 80% of all diseases in the world develop due to poor water quality and violation of sanitary and hygienic standards for use.

Previously expert Lebedev said about the danger of contamination of the well with nitrate fertilizers.
