The 2022 parade will open with foot pillars that will march along Red Square from the History Museum to Vasilyevsky Spusk. The first to pass will be a company of drummers, followed by the Victory Banner, the Russian State Flag and the Banner of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. They will be followed by three honor guard groups dressed in the uniforms of the three branches of the RF Armed Forces – the Land Forces, the Aeronautical Forces and the Navy.

Next will pass columns of 35 formations and military universities – both the Ministry of Defense and the FSB, the Ministry of Emergencies and the Russian Guard. Among the columns will be the parade team of Yunarmiya, the columns of the Suvorov, Nakhimov and Cadets, two columns of female soldiers, two columns of Cossack troops and the 2nd Guards Taman Motor Rifle Division, the 4th Tank Division and one column each. Brigades of the 27th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Division.

After the march, military equipment will move to Red Square. The regiment will be opened by the legendary Soviet tank T-34-85, which became a symbol of victory in the Great Patriotic War. This will be followed by Typhoon armored vehicles of various modifications, T-72B3M, T-90M and T-14 Armata tanks, Tornado-G MLRS, Iskender-M missile systems, Msta-S self-propelled guns.

Two columns of air defense units will consist of complexes Buk-M3, Tor-M2 and S-400. Landing equipment will be represented by BMD 4M and BTR-MDM vehicles. Uran-9 robotic tanks on Ural wheeled tractors and Yars strategic missile systems will be followed next. The ground part of the parade is covered by the latest Boomerang armored personnel carriers.

The aerial part of the parade will open, weather permitting, with the world’s largest Mi-26 helicopter accompanied by Mi-24s. Gunship groups Ka-52, Mi-28n and Mi-8 will fly later

After that, airplanes will appear in the sky. The Il-76MD transport vehicle will fly first, followed by the Il-78 tanker accompanied by two MiG-29 fighters. After that, the IL-80 will follow, which will also “cover” the MiGs.

Next, the missile carriers will appear – the Tu-95MS, four accompanying Su-35, Tu-22 and Tu-160, as well as another Il-78 tanker and four MiG-31BM high-altitude interceptors.

After that, three “quads” of Su-24, MiG-31 and Su-57 aircraft will fly over Red Square. A special feature of the airborne division of the parade will be groups of eight MiG-29smt in the form of the letter Z.

An unusual feature of this parade will be the absence of column 13 in it. Alexander Khramchikhin, deputy director of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis, believes that this is due to superstition, since the parade took place during a special military operation. Ukraine. “I can’t find any other explanation for this,” stressed Khramchikhin.

He added that the composition of the equipment was not accidental and reflected the non-anniversary nature of the parade. “Objectively speaking, it would be very strange to hold a grand parade in the current circumstances, given that the date is not an anniversary. “The less, the better, under current conditions,” he said.

The expert also added that the absence of foreign leaders should not affect the composition of the equipment – the purpose of the parade is to show a snapshot of the state of the Armed Forces of the country, and not to impress foreigners.

In turn, Alexei Leonkov, editor of the Motherland magazine Arsenal, noted that the main purpose of the parade is to show both equipment already in combat units and equipment that has only been developed and put into service.

“We are talking, among other things, about equipment involved in a special military operation,” Leonkov said. At the same time, according to him, the participation of the historical T-34 tank and the latest Armat and Boomerang shows the continuity of military equipment.

Military political scientist Valery Volkov believes that a separate task of the parade will be “the desire to highlight the special connection between the victory of May 9, 1945 and today’s events in Ukraine.”

“Official Kyiv defiantly rejects this holiday, believing that the Kremlin is using it for its own influence. Moscow, on the contrary, shows in every possible way that it is the heir to the Soviet winners. I note that it is strongly emphasized [российским политическим руководством]that this is a victory not only for the interests of the USSR or Russia, but also for the interests of the whole world. This is not only a national value, but a global and universal value. This will certainly be emphasized once again, ”Volkov concluded.
