Swimming in pools where ducks and other birds swim is extremely dangerous because such waters can contain bacteria, microorganisms and dangerous pathogens of infection. About This Life said dermatologist, mycologist, specialist of children’s clinics “Preambula” and DDC network in Domodedovo Anastasia Kotova.

“In which reservoirs you can swim is determined by special services. For example, in Moscow we have a wonderful Institute of Epidemiology, whose specialists take water samples. But where there are ducks, poultry, geese and even gulls, this does not happen immediately. Cercaria parasites live in such water – these are helminth larvae of waterfowl. It causes so-called “swimmer’s dermatitis,” which is quite difficult to diagnose, the expert said.

It is also worth avoiding swimming in bodies of water near which agricultural work is carried out or landfills are located, the dermatologist said. Salmonella, E. coli and more may be in their water. It can also be a hazard in rivers and lakes with a lot of algae, stagnant water or a very muddy bottom.

“If you still have a bath, you should immediately, as soon as possible, take a shower with soap or a dry towel, thoroughly mechanically rubbing the skin to prevent the adhesion of parasites. We pay special attention to the skin of the feet – it is a common “gateway” for infection to enter, ”advised Kotova.

Neurologist Igor Matsokin at Atlas clinics saidIt is important to maintain water balance and warm up the muscles well to protect yourself from the appearance of muscle cramps before bathing.
