Specialists of the Siberian Federal University, together with the Institute of Biophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, obtained a harvest of vegetables and herbs, which were first grown using prototypes of new phosphorescent LED lamps developed by SibFU employees. Thanks to this, you can grow vegetables and herbs in every corner of the country, including in the Far North. This was reported to socialbites.ca at the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.

For the foreseeable future, technology will be able to solve the problem of providing residents of northern cities with tasty and healthy vegetables all year round, by reducing the cost of produce.

“If you choose as many different chemical compositions for phosphorus as possible, you can effectively grow an almost unlimited number of vegetable and fruit crops, including those very exotic for Siberia,” said the head of the laboratory that controls phototrophic biosynthesis. He explained to socialbites.ca Alexander Tikhomirov at the Institute of Biophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Initially, chemists synthesized phosphors, compounds applied to glass to create light with desired properties. Then, lamps were made according to drawings of university experts, and a two-month experiment was conducted on the photobiological efficiency of new lamps with a new spectral composition.

Using such prototypes of phosphorescent LED lamps with different spectral characteristics, a complete cycle of growing plants from seed sowing to harvest is completed.

“In the field of phytolamp, lettuce is grown entirely with the help of domestic technologies. Photobiological studies using such lamp prototypes with different spectral compositions helped us to get radishes with different flavors – there are root crops with a sharper “flavor bouquet”, they are especially rich in vitamin C and sweeter, more fragrant radishes – these It is obtained by changing the spectrum in the phytolamp in the direction of increasing radiation in the red region. We are still looking at tomatoes, choosing the technology of plant formation and the technical characteristics of the lamps, which will allow us to get the most juicy, useful and high-quality fruits in terms of organoleptic properties, ”said the director. Department of Photonics and Laser Technologies of the Siberian Federal University, to socialbites.ca.

At this time, a biochemical examination of the radish crop will be carried out to confirm the compliance of the obtained products with the requirements for nutritional and vitamin content. Organoleptic indicators are also being studied – the taste qualities by which a potential buyer will evaluate the vegetables.
