Engineers used Chat-GPT, a neural network-based chatbot, to design a tomato picking robot. This was reported by the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne.
In the first phase, the researchers discussed the idea of a combine harvester with a chatbot to determine its purpose, design parameters and technical specifications. The authors started at a conceptual level by talking to Chat-GPT about the future problems of humanity and concluded that robotic harvesting will help solve the global food problem. Once the basic format of the robot (a motorized gripper for holding ripe tomatoes) was determined, the researchers asked what the shape of the gripper should be. “Although Chat-GPT is a language model and code generation is text-based, it provided important information for design and showed great potential as a “resonator” to stimulate human creativity,” the scientists said.
