The Spanish airline pilots union (Sepla) has called for a new strike for Air Europa pilots between 19 June and 2 July due to the “company’s confrontational stance”. With the company IV. Continuing the Collective Bargaining negotiations, the union assures that Air Europa had to take the “hard step” of the strike because of the “closeness and inhibition of its management”.
They state that from the syndicate, Air Europa. “continues to prefer confrontation with workers rather than negotiation”. In this sense, the union reported that the company “chosen to strain relations with workers” by claiming unlawfulness against the union branch for the previous strike call. This is the third strike call for pilots in recent months, after the call for May 1, 2, 4 and 5, and May 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and 30, and May 1 and June 2.
They note from Sepla that the pilots expressed concern over “the company’s inactive strategy that complicates the necessary understanding between both parties and unnecessarily prolongs the business dispute”. Likewise, they reject the “irresponsibility” of Air Europa’s board, which has not requested a meeting from the strike committee for a month. They also highlight: airline’s executives declined invitation to start negotiations With new offers exclusive to the Interfederal Mediation and Arbitration System (SIMA).
According to knowledgeable sources, company and union representatives held several meetings both at SIMA and at their premises last May, and later the same company filed for arbitration at SIMA, which was rejected by union representatives. At the end of the last strike, the company would suggest up to ten new meetings and they would maintain the willingness to negotiate and dialogue, which they claimed to have had since the beginning of the conflict.
