US state of Missouri to execute man who committed two murders in 2000 Associated press.
State Governor Mark Parson has denied an amnesty request for Michael Tisius, 42, who killed two guards. Thisius committed the crime in June 2000 while trying to free his former cellmate from county jail.
The US Supreme Court on Monday refused to stay the execution on the grounds that Tysius was 19 at the time of the murder. Last week, a federal judge suspended the execution of one of the jurors who sentenced Tisius in 2010 for illiteracy, but an appeals panel overturned that decision.
The Associated Press noted that Tysius would be the third person to be executed in Missouri and the 12th to be executed in the United States since early 2023.
Previously reportedIn 2022, the number of executions in the world was the highest in the last five years. In particular, the number of executions in the United States rose from 11 to 18.
